The day when I got really angry

A memory as a story for learning English

سعید علی‌حسینی

Once on the first day of the week I woke up late while I had already decided to pay an installment for my car that morning on the way to my office. The Thursday before, I had gone to the bank to pay it but as the electrical powers had gone off there, I hadn’t done the transaction, so I decided to pay it the next Saturday. I was trying to be on-time and punctual, but the week before the government had announced a few working days off because of the weather/pollution conditions and that Saturday was one day after my monthly deadline to pay the installment so I thought the car leasing company would fine and may be the person who warranted me!

With a lot of efforts and troubles, as you know there are with our banking systems, I finally found an ATM and withdraw the amount of money for the installment, then went to a special branch of another bank with that huge money in a pocket in my hand. Unfortunately that time there were some problems with the bank computer network and took me a lot of time so that my leave-time was over and then I had to respond to the office manager about my delay! I went out of the bank hurriedly while murmuring;what the systems we have!? Why must I buy a car by double-price or more in such a difficult manner?!

I reached the embassy of UK on Istanbul cross-way. There were a few soldiers; they had put some barrels, fences and other obstacles on the sidewalk in front of the embassy. The street was narrow and motorcycle and buses were passing without any respect and consideration about pedestrians, a few days before one colleague had had an accident over there with a motorbike who had tried to steal his briefcase! With these considerations and thoughts in mind, I entered the sidewalk from a corner but very soon two soldiers stopped me and wanted me to go to that dangerous street! I asked them who and why did they ban the sidewalk? They replied: President Khatami and Mr Ghalibaf, the commander of the police, in National Security Council had made such a rule against the angry protesters of England who had broken glasses by throwing stones and fires at the embassy many days ago, in order to keep the safety and security of the embassy. I got really angry about such disturbances and meaningless decision and said a polite insult which in turn ignited a quarrel with those country soldiers! They arrested and directed me to the Diplomatic Police where the chief officer harshly hit me on chest and warned me that I was going to be fired from my work and they would sent me to Evin jail so that nobody would know where I was! After a few hours, they called my enterprise Protect Organization (PO), Herasat, and delivered my bag to them. A few days later, the PO called me for some pieces of advice, commitments and warnings.

Few years later, when I paid all my car installments, I went to the leasing company to settle the leasing agreement. After a lot of bureaucracy they penalized me for that one day delay without considering all other months that I paid even sooner than the deadline!
